Missoula Works – Mama’s Promise Jewelry

Mama’s Promise is a jewelry line created by homeless mothers. Missoula Works was challenged with identifying income-generating opportunities for homeless mothers with newborns in the Family Promise program. Family Promise is an emergency shelter program for families experiencing homeless, operated by Missoula Interfaith Collaborative. To begin this enterprise, they paired with a local leather artisan and private donors to sponsor the raw material for the jewelry. Each item is custom cut and handcrafted by one of their mothers. Inspired by these strong and hard-working moms, the Mama’s Promise jewelry line gives homeless mothers with newborns a creative outlet and an opportunity to earn income. By creating jewelry at a personal pace, mamas are better able to nurture essential bonds with their new babies while simultaneously providing for their families. The Montana Telecommunications Access Program (MTAP) oversees the Montana Relay program, which allows people who are Deaf to use telephone services, and by offering assistive equipment and services to Montanans whose disabilities make it hard for them to use the phone.
